Erebus Motorsport driver David Reynolds is currently working to extend his contract with the Holden team beyond the end of this season.

The Albury-born racer joined Erebus at a time of transition at the end of 2015, with the team moving from the Gold Coast to Melbourne and switching from Mercedes-AMG to Holden equipment.

Dropped by Prodrive after a year where he finished third in points, Reynolds was a major player in an off-season that saw a number of high-profile driver moves including Fabian Coulthard to DJR Team Penske, Tim Slade to Brad Jones Racing, Will Davison to Tekno Autosports and Shane van Gisbergen to Triple Eight.

After one and a half seasons with Erebus that has helped propel the team into regular podium contention, Reynolds admitted he wants to extend his stay with the Betty Klimenko owned squad.

“I'm actually in the middle of redoing my contract with Erebus for the next little bit,” Reynolds told the FOX Motorsport Supercars Podcast.

“I'm not talking to another team and I probably won't. I'm a loyal person, very loyal.

“Life's going good, I feel happy about it.”

The three-time race winner detailed how negotiations work for a driver looking to extend their deal.

“Every time you go for a contract negotiation you're always trying to get as much as you can,” he added.

“It's just how much the team can afford and whether they think you're worth it; do you bring enough value?

“There's many aspects, not just your performance on the track, there's a lot of off-track stuff you do, sponsor work, are you marketable, are you popular in the sport?

“Do you speak well about our team, are you nice to everyone? There's heaps of different things. Do you talk well on the radio, you never say anything bad about the team?

“I've got nothing bad to say about my team. They're the best team I've been involved with as far as culture goes.”

Reynolds also weighed in on the current position of championship leader Coulthard, who is believed to be at the end of his initial two-year deal at Shell V-Power Racing.

While the Kiwi and team are not commenting publicly, Reynolds said the deal is a no-brainer for the driver – even if bigger money is potentially available elsewhere.

“Well that's the million dollar question, isn't it? It's completely up to the person themselves. What are you chasing?” Reynolds said.

“For Fabs, he'd be stupid to leave and he'd be trying everything he can to redo his deal, and I don't see why he wouldn't.

“He's leading the championship, he's in a good spot. I don't see why you'd want to leave unless DJR have different opinions, which I doubt.

“You'd be stupid to move. Leading the championship, he's got it all going on for him. The best time to re-sign is now.”
