After a second place finish for Jack Le Brocq in yesterday's 19-lapper, MW Motorsport have identified their race starts as the squad's major deficit in their fight for their first race win in 2015.

The Melbourne-based team is one of the strongest outfits in the V8 Supercars Dunlop Series, fielding series contenders Le Brocq and Chris Pither alongside rookie Simon Evans, who has impressed in his debut year.

While the team have broken Cameron Waters' pole reign on two occasions - with Pither claiming the only two pole positions Waters hasn't scored this season - the all-Ford squad haven't managed a race win all season.

Team-owner Matthew White has put it done to the race starts of all three of his drivers, telling v8supercars.com.au it's the key hurdle the team are currently battling.

"We've been terrible all year at them," White said of the team's race starts.

"We've given spots away consistently and we've been doing a lot of work to improve our starts and it's starting to show.

"As long as we can keep going forward with that, then we can get a race win but until we do that that, I don't see Cam making any mistakes and that's the only way we would be able to get him."

The work that has gone into improving the MW Motorsport racers' starts was evident in race two yesterday, when Le Brocq held onto second position at the jump.

"We didn't drop any spots," White acknowledged.

"But now we need to start making some and that will be the difference between whether we get a race win or not.

"Cam is really good on cold tyres so he did up us on the first lap and we sort of seemed to have him, but it's one thing to have him and then one to get past him.

"We probably do need a little bit more pace too, but predominately it will be the start that does it for us."

But despite the identified weakness, White was praiseworthy of his driver line-up, telling v8supercars.com.au all three drivers have met the challenge Waters has presented in 2015.

"Cam is running inside the top ten in the main game [in the co-driver sessions] and that's the level that our guys are having to rise to, which is tough for them," he said.

"Even Simon, he's a rookie and he's been spectacular with three top ten qualifying results so far and he had a solid race out there [yesterday].

"Jack is doing a great job, he is doing well and developing into a solid driver and Chris is up the front too.

"We're happy with all of them."

Meanwhile as Le Brocq works to improve his race starts, he was nonchalant about a looming race win, telling v8supercars.com.au it will come as he puts all he learns in to practice.

"I'd like to say yes, but anything can happen," Le Brocq said when asked on clinching his first victory in the category.

"It seems with the more experience I get, the better we're getting. Who knows what's around the corner, but fingers crossed."

MW Motorsport will return to Queensland Raceway tomorrow for the final two races of the Coates Hire Ipswich SuperSprint, with race two kicking off at 9.35am, followed by race three at 12.40pm.
