Moffat and SVG collide in Race 19

Volvo driver James Moffat received a pit lane drive-through penalty late in today’s 200km race at Sydney Motorsport Park for a tap on Shane van Gisbergen.

The two were fighting over a fourth place finish – valuable points for Van Gisbergen, who is in the championship hunt, and the best finish of the year by far for Moffat at his new team. He instead finished 18th after a drive-through was handed down immediately.

Supercars Hall of Famer and expert commentator Mark Skaife called the penalty “overboard”.

Van Gisbergen finished fifth and didn’t seem too bothered, saying: “I got spun out at the end which wasn’t very good but I only lost one spot so I still managed to bring it home.”

What do you think of the clash – was it worthy of a race-ending penalty for Moff?
