Lap by Lap: Qualifying 23 and 24

Back-to-back qualifying sessions unfolded this morning, with Jamie Whincup and Will Davison set to start from ARMOR ALL Pole Position in each race.

Back-to-back 15 minute qualifying sessions unfold this morning, determining the grid for this afternoon's pair of 32-lap races at the Coates Hire Ipswich 360 at Queensland Raceway. Who will take the ARMOR ALL Pole Positions – two opportunities to start from p1 today. 

Cars are exiting pit lane. 

Whincup records the first time, and is followed by Holdsworth with a 1min09.9517. 

After the first few laps recorded, Bright, Whincup, Holdsworth, Engel and Reynolds form the top five.

Tander to the top with less than nine minutes. McLaughlin shoots into second. 

McLaughlin eclipses Tander with just over seven minutes to go. Will Davison into second. 

Mostert into p2 with a 1min09.6128. just 0.0268sec off the quickest time. 

Alex Davison goes to the top with a 1min09.4489. 

Under five minutes to go and Coulthard to the top.

Plenty of cars leaving pit lane to contest the last four minutes. Who is going to set a time at the end of the session? Whincup 10th, Lowndes 14, Winterbottom 19, Courtney 20. 

Less than two minutes to go with Coulthard at the top, ahead of Alex Davison. 

McLaughlin to the top with 1min47 to go. Courtney into second, Reynolds fourth. 

Whincup fastest – just over a minute left. McLaughlin fast in the first sector. Mostert into fourth.

McLaughlin has backed off and is into pit lane, still in second. 

Will Davison to seventh with a handful of seconds left in the session. Chequered flag is now out. 

Order is Whincup, McLaughlin, Courtney, Mostert, Coulthard, Reynolds, Will Davison, Alex Davison, Bright, Slade make up the top 10. 

Van Gisbergen 12, Lowndes 13 (plus two grid spots after a penalty), Winterbottom 14, Tander 15. 

27 cars within one second. Whincup's quickest time was a 1min09.0747 which breaks the qualifying lap record. 

Great run for Mostert, his best ever qualifying in fourth.

A 10 minute break separates the two qualifying sessions.

Mark Winterbottom already out for the second session, the first, after he blamed congestion for his time, which will grab 13th. 

Reynolds is fast early, with a 1min09.3716.

Alex Davison, Winterbottom, Mostert, Premat early top five.

Reynolds faster again with just over 10 minutes to go.

Todd Kelly pops up into ninth, with Whincup coming around in 10th. 

Lowndes has come in for a fresh set of tyres already and has exited pit lane on his own. 

Courtney, Coulthard and Slade heading into the pits now. Only seven cars out on track. 

Reynolds still leads the way, with Winterbottom, van Gis, Alex Davison and Bright making up the top five. Seven minutes to go. 

Lowndes now in second. Top time is 1min09.2845, so Lowndes is 0.0618sec behind. 

Mostert once again in the top 10, eighth, with five mins to go. Most cars have left pit lane, just four not on track. 

Todd Kelly into the top five and Mostert to the top with a 1min09.1082 with three minutes to go. 

Reynolds to second by 0.02 to second. Slade the fastest the Merc has been this weekend anad Will Davison to the top. McLaughlin jumps to sixth –plenty of action with two minutes remaining. 

Whincup and Lowndes nine and 10. 

Will Davison claims his first ARMOR ALL Pole Position of the year, with young gun Mostert starting alongside, also his best qualifying of the year. 

Results are Reynolds, Slade, Alex Davison, McLaughlin, Courtney, Winterbottom, Jamie Whincup, Craig Lowndes. 

Two BJR cars follow with Bright and Coulthard 11 and 12.
