Practice 4 Highlights - Castrol EDGE Townsville 400

The Wilson Security Garry Rogers Motorsport crew has changed the engine in Scott McLaughlin's car after a drama in this morning's practice at the Castrol EDGE Townsville 400.

McLaughlin was running in the top 10 before his Volvo stopped on track, ultimately prompting an engine change between sessions.

The young Kiwi and his team have had a trying run this season with a number of DNFs and recurring engine issues.

However team boss Garry Rogers confirmed it was not the same drama they have been experienced this year, despite McLaughlin's musings it was similar as it dropped down to seven cylinders.

"We're changing the engine - we had an internal failure, but it's certainly not the one we have been having," he told v8supercars.com.au.

"It's not the issue we've had as an ongoing issue, but it is something we've been looking at for a period of time."

Rogers' crew has had experience changing engines between sessions as the team developed the S60's power plant since Volvo joined the grid last year.

"Isn't that sad they've had to get good at it," Rogers said.

While McLaughlin and Volvo had a strong season out the box last year with a number of wins, 10 ARMOR ALL Pole Positions and a top five Championship finish, this year has been more troubled. He currently sits 18th in the points standings.

He told v8supercars.com.au the year so far has been character building, but remains his jovial self around pit lane.

Rogers said his young charge was happy with the pace of the car after finishing 10th in the combined practice results from Townsville.

"Why wouldn't he be - he's had good speed since we got here," Rogers said.

The cars qualify at 1.10pm local time for this afternoon's 200km mixed tyre race.
