It will be Volvo versus Red Bull on the front row at Barbagallo Raceway for both of this afternoon's races.

Scott McLaughlin nabbed ARMOR ALL Pole Position in the first 10-minute session with a 55.46sec run, with idol Craig Lowndes alongside on the front row.

The second session sees the same two at the front -but the order is reversed, with Lowndes starting from first position.

The other star from both qualifying session was Russell Ingall in his Repair Management Australia Racing Commodore -he perched at the top of the times for a period, and ended both sessions third, to start from the second row.

From there, in the Race 14 session, it was Fabian Coulthard, Lee Holdsworth, Chaz Mostert, Will Davison, Mark Winterbottom, David Reynolds and Dale Wood in the top 10.

Lowndes recorded his winning 55.297sec lap on just his third run around the 2.42km circuit, opting for a different strategy and taking his good tyres early in the session. He said it was just a matter of crossing his fingers and hoping he didn't drop too far at the end - and the gamble paid off, with McLaughlin 0.08sec away, not quite close enough.

Whincup bounced back for fourth, to start next to The Enforcer, with Winterbottom, Davison, Courtney, Mostert, Holdsworth and Coulthard completed the top 10.

Others to note include rookie Robert Dahlgren in 13th, Tander in 17th, van Gisbergen 20, Bright 22. Click here for full results.

Race 14 kicks off at 12.25pm local time.
