Supercars can confirm North Queensland’s largest annual sporting event, the NTI Townsville 500 is going ahead as planned in light of this week’s extension of government COVID restrictions.

Supercars CEO Sean Seamer said: “Construction of the Reid Park circuit began earlier this week.

“Supercars’ personnel and contractors are now working around the clock to bring together this year’s event which is set for 9-11 July.

“There are currently no restrictions in place that would cause any change for the event.

“As always Supercars will be monitoring the situation and will adhere to all government COVID requirements as they arise.”

This year’s NTI Townsville 500 will feature three days of on-track action including two 250km Repco Supercars Championship races on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

The event will for the first time in Townsville, see displays by some of Australia’s most- powerful drag cars along with the popular Hot Wheels Stunt Team, headed up by the legendary Matt Mingay and performances by the high-flying Airtime FMX Team.

Off track, Aussie rock star and Grinspoon frontman Phil Jamieson will perform on the Saturday night, after the winner of a brand-new Battle of the Bands competition takes to the stage to rock in front of thousands of fans at the track precinct at the Saturday Night Thrills concert.

The entertainment will end with a fireworks display following Jamieson’s performance which will include covers of rock hits and original music.

Support categories for this year’s event include the Dunlop Super2 Series, Porsche Carrera Cup, Toyota Gazoo Racing Australia 86 Series, and the fan-favourite Stadium Super Trucks, all of which will feature some of Australia’s best up and coming drivers.
