Alex Davison has run off-track and into the tyres during Erebus Motorsport V8's test at Queensland Raceway.

The team is still assessing the damage to the #9 Mercedes Benz, but reports it will be out for the remainder of the test day, which is the team's first since the compulsory, season launching sydney.com Test Day in February.

Davison - who will co-drive with brother Will for the Pirtek Enduro Cup beginning in September - said the Erebus V8 Supercar suffered from a brake failure, and shot off-track at turn three, the end of the back straight.

"We went off the track, I had a brake failure and ended up having a pretty sizeable accident," Davison told v8supercars.com.au.

"Prior to that, everything had gone really well. Obviously it's been the longest stint I've had out of a race car... I was a little apprehensive coming into the day, but it was good to reassure myself that I still knew how it worked and got around it all ok!

"I got up to speed and felt really comfortable straight away.

"Everything has been fantastic and really positive, it was just disappointing the day ended a bit prematurely.

"But luckily I'm ok because if you can get out of a brake failure and walk away and not have any dramas, it's always a good day.

"And the car's not too damaged from what I understand so will obviously be fine for Darwin for Will.

"The biggest disappointment is probably for Will and the team that they'll miss out on hours of testing this arvo, with the limited testing this year - any testing time you get is gold.

"It's a pity they'll miss out on that but luck to get out of it without me being hurt or the car being a complete write off."

It was Davison's first run in Mercedes Benz, and the former full-timer went into the day without expectation.

While there has been plenty of excitement about the pairing of brothers Alex and Will, another benefit is the relationship Alex already has with the majority of the team after having raced there in its former guise of Stone Brothers Racing.

Red Bull Racing Australia is also running at Queensland Raceway today.
