Dane Inks up to Celebrate Anniversary

A "slightly inebriated" Roland Dane has celebrated Triple Eight Race Engineering's 10 years and 100 wins in Australia by inking up.

A “slightly inebriated” Roland Dane has celebrated TripleEight Race Engineering’s 10 years and 100 wins in Australia by inking up.

Dane now bears a large Triple Eight logo on his left shoulderthat was applied in Los Angeles at the start of his road trip to the Austin 400with Paul Morris.

“After a four hour dinner at an Italian dinner, in whichRoland picked some lovely bottles of Italian wine, we got to talking abouttattoos, and next thing he was in Tattoo Mania getting it done,” laughedMorris.

“He manned up pretty good, he was more worried they got thelogo right.”

Asked if this tattoo was the real Roland emerging, Danesaid: “It wasn’t the real me, I think it was the slightly inebriated me.

“It was a spur of the moment thing, coming up to TripleEight in Australia and 100 wins, I was feeling pretty good about it and Iwanted to make sure I didn’t forget.”

The Sandown 500 will mark 10 years since Triple Eight RaceEngineering debuted in Australia, after taking over the Briggs Motorsportsquad. Since then it has won four V8 Supercars Championships and five Bathurst1000s.

Dane admitted the 10 year anniversary would be celebrated“in one or two ways”.

Dane and Morris drove from LA to Austin in an ex-police FordCrown Victoria, adding a set of horns to the bonnet in El Paso.

Jamie Whincup starts from ARMOR ALL Pole Position in both of today's races.
