James Courtney has secured his first ARMOR ALL Pole Position for the season, recording a 1min03.0638 in the first of the back-to-back qualifying sessions.

He has been on the podium at all of this year's Championship events, with a win at the season opening Clipsal 500.

Ford foe Mark Winterbottom will start alongside on the front row, hoping to redeem himself after uncharacteristic driver errors yesterday.

Scott McLaughlin and his Volvo came home third, with Chaz Mostert, Jamie Whincup, Nick Percat, Shane van Gisbergen, yesterday’s winner Jason Bright, Todd Kelly and Tim Slade completing the top 10.

The only Kiwi driver in the field not to feature in the top 10, Fabian Coulthard came home 13 – but the biggest shock was Championship leader Craig Lowndes in 15th.

“We’ve got to try and make the best of it,” Lowndes said in the break between sessions. “We don’t have a lot of time so we’ll try to do the best we can.”

Courtney's teammate Garth Tander was 11th, while other Walkinshaw Racing stablemates were inside the top 10.
