Last year’s Pukekohe winner Jason Bright has qualified on ARMOR ALL Pole Position for today’s first race at the ITM 500 Auckland.

Starting alongside his Team BOC Commodore on the grid is Jamie Whincup, bouncing back from a difficult run at the last event in Winton, just 0.075sec off the pole time.

The 20-minute session was punctuated with a red flag five minutes into the session, with Rick Kelly veering off-track in his Jack Daniel’s Nissan.

But the biggest moment was for Mark Winterbottom, who ran wide at the final corner and pounded his Pepsi Max Falcon into the wall, causing him to spin across the start-finish line.

The team checked the passenger side of the car, before sending ‘Frosty’ back out to end the session in tenth.

Shane van Gisbergen was the highest placed Kiwi in third, with Craig Lowndes, Will Davison, James Courtney, Scott McLaughlin, Nick Percat and Fabian Coulthard, with Winterbottom, completing the top 10.

Others to note include highest placed Nissan James Moffat 13, Garth Tander 16 and Chaz Mostert – a rookie in a V8 Supercar at this circuit – 21.
