While GM had the splashy couture of GM Style at the Detroit Auto Show, Dodge caused a near stampede for the unveiling of the new 2009 Dodge Ram with 100 cattle on hand under the lassos of 10 honest-to-goodness cowboys. The cows made the trip from their Oklahoma ranch. That's where they live thanks to a benevolent rancher who didn't want to seem them slaughtered and has them at their new gig - show cows for parade and auto show debuts. While some flirtatious horseplay was noted, the herd kept the peace on the streets of downtown Detroit.

It feels like its time for the fifth largest American automaker to wrestle up soon new buyers, which is why they're introducing new cars like the 2008 Dodge Journey, along with industry staples like the Ram to appeal to you Texans. The Journey debuted at the Frankfurt Auto Show, and hits showrooms in full cattle call in April. I actually drove two versions of the Dodge Journey today to Lake Mead outside of Las Vegas, but due to an embargo, I'm keeping quiet about my opinions for now. Let's just say there's a lot of hiding places in this new affordable CUV to rival the Ford Edge and Chevy Equinox. The greatest -- a place for the purse under the passenger seat with one easy tug.

All practicality aside of the fairly price $20,000 or so CUV, ladies the next best thing is coming down the Dodge pipeline - the Dodge Challenger at the Chicago Auto Show. While the feisty SRT-8 might be daunting to some of you, the V-6 might have the fuel economy to replace your minivan or Corolla with for a little sassiness behind the wheel. Not so sure that a Chrysler can rival a Toyota? Look as far as the new head of sales & marketing - Jim Press - a former board member of Toyota, whose policy has always been customers come first. Apparently a new sheriff is in town in the Wild Midwest. Giddyyap.
