Honda Motor Corp., the Japanese maker of quality
Acura Integra ball joint, has recently reached a million units of Honda Civic produced in its UK manufacturing facility in Swindon.
The UK factory started producing the Honda Civic since 1994. For the first year, it was able to assemble 6,652 units. This year, 128,792 units have been scheduled for production. Currently, it is producing Civic three-door and five-door hatchback models, together with the latest-generation Honda CR-V all-terraine. The vehicles are distributed on UK market and on about 60 countries, including South Africa (SA). The millionth Honda Civic, which is a three-door Type R in Milano Red, however, will not be for SA shores, but for a British buyer.
In 1972, the original Civic was introduced. Since then, the sales of the compact car went over 17 million units, of which approximately 2.5 million was accounted in Europe.
In July 2006, the Civic hatch joined the four-door Civic sedan in South Africa. As expected, it has brought success. And, the ultra-sporty three-door Civic Type R also carried it out. In fact, the sedan in VX guise was granted with the SA Car of the Year award.
Since the award was given, the sales record of the Civic sedan went surging each month. From February of this year, it has improved by 65 percent for the month of March and 62 percent for April.
Due to the persistent improvement and success, the Honda CR-V 2.2 i-CTDi has been included as one of the finalists for the 2008 SA Car of the Year competition.
